I really like Death Note, but the entirety of Near's character just annoyed me. L's logic, while a stretch, made sense. Near's logic on the otherhand had illogical jumps of faith, and after the entire arc of L, it annoyed me to no end. Further, after L died, there was a closure. I haven't read the manga yet, but for the anime they had this nice The second half, however, has a lot of manga material that they left out of the anime, including the entire last chapter.
